15 times an hour? We call that amateur status 'round these parts. I stopped breathing 123 times in one hour during my test -- twice a minute. Halfway during the night, the lab assistant actually woke me up to put oxygen on me. They told me they legally could not have me under their care with oxygen levels that low (around 69%). My CPAP machine not only changed my life, it probably saved it. Before I owned a machine, it took me hours to feel "up and around" every morning and I was falling asleep while driving home every evening. Now, I feel completely rested every morning and have no problems making it through the day without a nap. Obviously, my difference will be much more profound than yours, but I hope it at least makes a positive change in your life.

As for the noise of the machine, like Angie mentioned, my wife loves the sound of mine. It's like a soothing noise, not unlike a box fan on low. In fact, when I travel, my wife has a hard time falling asleep without the noise!

When you go get fitted for a mask, don't just settle for the first one they present. There are a lot of different shapes and styles, so find one that works for you. I can tell you from experience that the defacto one they give out is kind of lousy for people with goatees. It's hard to get an air tight seal with them. My friend swears by the "nose pillows" but I've yet to try that one.

My husband has a CPAP and he swears by it. It takes a bit to get used to it, but once you're settled in, the difference will be amazing. And if your snoring was really that bad (my husband's was horrendous -- he could wake me up from two rooms away), your "unfortunately proximate companions/associates" will be delighted to find that they can scrap their plans for your messy 2am demise. ;)

It's not so bad. It took me a short time to get used to it. It ended up feeling like I forgot to shave or something. I had my usual trouble getting to bed but it wasn't particularly more or less than usual.

Course, I guess I'd be freaked it was LESS trouble....

How the hell do you fall asleep with all that crap on you? If I went to a sleep clinic, I'd most likely end up staying awake the whole night.
