As a side note, when the mall was in the process of being demolished, the owners allowed the local fire department to come in and run controlled burns in order to conduct training. The fire department gave permission for other departments to come in and have a store to do their own training in.

With regards to the Galleria, their lack of maintenance made them 'pwn' themselves last month.... http://misc.vassar.edu/archives/2007/02/poughkeepsie_ga_1.html

I saw "Fish Kill Flea" at SXSW last week, and I wasn't that impressed with the documentary. It moved very slowly and while it was quite objective, mostly just watching the flea market shoppers and vendors, I really wished they had more info about the great days of the mall to contrast with how it is now.

Glad I stumbled upon this post (and site for that matter). I really dig the way you describe your memories.

We had some Service Merchandises here in St. Louis too, only the computers were behind glass cases. You could look but you couldn't touch. I can picture myself standing at the Amiga case staring at King Tut, wishing my dad would buy us one.

Orcutt nails me on the Macy's/Mays mistake, and he's quite right. It was Mays and Jamesway and then IBM, and then Big Husk of Death. Throughout it, there's still that greenhouse on the northern side!

It was also where you and I rekindled our friendship, where we remet after a few years when you were showing your TRS-80 in the center part of the Dutchess for your boy scout troop. I remember SOME things right!

With regards to Jeremy and the South Hills, I am mostly referring to the late 1980s when the South Hills ate the Dutchess' lunch; after that the Galleria came out and "pwned" the South Hills. And so it goes...
